Sunshine Coast solar power system return on your investment
Here at The Sun Works, we are often asked if it is worth installing a solar power system and how much will it return. Every Sunshine Coast home is unique and we all use different amounts of power at different times of the day however, unless your roof is heavily shaded, a quality, correctly installed solar power system is a very worthwhile investment.
Lets look at a couple of examples:
This Sunshine Coast solar power system installed in Buderim has 17.6kW of solar panels installed on a 15kW 3 phase Fronius Symo inverter. As you can see from the image below the home consumed a total of 6.78MWh or 6,780kWhs of power in the period 1st January 2019 to 24th March 2019.
Without solar (and ignoring the daily service charge) the bill for this period would have been a whopping $1,898* however the solar system reduced the amount drawn from the grid to 3,250kWhs which dropped the cost to $910 and in the same period 3,370kWhs of power was exported to the grid. The homeowner will be paid 20cents per kWh for this exported power which is a credit of $674.
Therefore the actual cost (excluding the daily service charge) for this customer dropped from $1,898 to only $314 a saving of $1,584 for the 83 day period.
This Sunshine Coast solar power system is a typical 6.6kW system with a 5kW Fronius inverter. This home consumed a total of 1,746.12kWhs for the period 17th January to 24th March which would have resulted in a power bill (ignoring the daily service charge) of $488.90*.
The solar system reduced the amount of power taken from the grid down to 799.33kWhs reducing the bill to $223.81 however in the same period 1,212.45kWhs were exported to the grid and the homeowner will be paid 20cents per kWh for this exported power which is a credit of $242.49.
Therefore the actual cost (excluding the daily service charge) for this customer dropped from $488.90 to a credit of $18.68 a saving of $507.58 for the 67 day period.
