The main advantage of glass on glass is very simple, glass does not age, breakdown or chemically change over time. The outer 2mm thick glass layer reliably prevents water and oxygen from reaching the high performance PERC (Passivated Emitter Rear Cell) solar cells and they are also protected from salt spray and ammonia. The use of glass on both the upper and lower sides guarantees maximum solar cell protection as cell fractures and damaging hot-spots are prevented.
Most standard solar panels have glass on the front that is 3mm thick – by using glass that is only 2mm thick SOLARWATT panels remain cooler in hot temperatures which increases solar power production during the summer months. The glass is also treated with anti-reflective treatments which also increases production by up to 4.5%.

Why glass on glass in superior to standard solar panels:
When standard panels are stressed most commonly due to mishandling, fractures or micro-cracks in the solar cells occur, this permanently reduces the amount of power the solar panel can produce. A SOLARWATT panel can only bend along the neutral axis and the cells are not stretched or compressed as a result solar cell fractures cannot occur.
